Latest Packaging Trends: Post Consumer Brands Offers Sustainable and Convenient Choices

As families’ tastes and needs change over time, food packaging solutions continue getting better too. Post Consumer Brands® stays on top of the latest trends, finding new ways to deliver our iconic brands while reducing environmental impact.

Sustainable Packaging

At Post Consumer Brands, we prioritize sustainable cereal packaging. For example, our Malt-O-Meal® brand first sold cereal in bags back in the 1960s, using fewer materials than boxes. Today, about 90% of the cereal packaging we use contains recycled or renewable materials. We aim to design 100% of our cereal packaging to be recyclable by 2025.

As members of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, we work with other companies to improve recyclability and reduce waste. We’re currently adding How2Recycle labels to over 85% of cereal products, educating families on proper recycling. Through innovations like these, we strive to deliver great taste while being mindful of the planet.

Convenient New Formats

Malt-O-Meal cereal pioneered the switch from boxes to portable, resealable bags starting in the 1960s. They introduced resealable zippers to cereal in 1998 for freshness. Now the brand offers over 30 flavors of cereal in bags enabling easy storage and on-the-go enjoyment.

We continue expanding grab-and-go options like Honey Bunches of Oats® Granola Chips and Fruity PEBBLES™ Crisps pouches to meet demand for snacking anytime. Through new formats, we creatively deliver the flavors families love into their busy lifestyles.

Augmented Reality Brings Fun

This July, our classic Honeycomb® cereal partnered with actor Terry Crews on an augmented reality experience for tweens. By scanning special boxes, kids entered an AR world where Terry presented fun videos and hosted HoneyRun, an interactive game challenging players to guide a bear collecting cereal.

With its first AR technology, Honeycomb cereal aimed to get kids excited for their day. The innovation shows our commitment to leveraging new tech to creatively connect families with Post Consumer Brands’ iconic brands.
