This September marks Hunger Action Month. At Post Consumer Brands®, we aim to increase access to nourishing food through donations and expanded community efforts. You can join us in the fight against hunger.
For over 125 years, Post employees have lent their time, resources, and expertise to causes and organizations important to them and their neighbors. From our cereal sales supporting United Way chapters to our annual Ingredients for Good volunteer initiative, we strengthen communities by coming together.
In 2022 alone, we donated about 30 million bowls of cereal and over 10,000 jars of peanut butter to Feeding America food banks. But did you know we provide hunger relief in other impactful ways?
Supporting Underserved Communities
We partner with organizations assisting underserved groups facing increased rates of food insecurity, such as communities of color, children, seniors, and immigrant populations. We connect with local nonprofits to understand each community’s unique needs and tailor our food donations and hunger relief efforts accordingly. For example, we work with food shelves to stock culturally familiar ingredients. We also support backpack programs providing meals for food-insecure kids on weekends.
Promoting Access and Affordability
At Post Consumer Brands, we prioritize value products so all families can access delicious and nutritious food within their budget. For example, we offer the widest range of value cereals. We also produce USDA commodity products distributed through federal food programs. By providing an array of affordable offerings, we aim to eliminate cost barriers to vital nutrition.
Rapid Disaster Response
When natural disasters strike, like the recent tornado in Wynne, Arkansas, we quickly donate cereal and peanut butter to assist. Our Jonesboro plant provided over 175 cases of cereal and peanut butter to Wynne, with plans for 2+ more truckloads for regional food banks.
While we make a difference, small acts of service add up. When we unite to Do Right, we can help end food insecurity. Here are five ways you can join our hunger relief efforts:
- Write encouraging notes on donated packages
- Reduce personal food waste through meal planning
- Share extra homegrown or homemade food
- Spread awareness on social media using #HungerActionMonth
- Donate to local pantries – even $10 provides 50 meals
