Three Ways Post Works to Responsibly Source Cereal and Snack Ingredients

Responsibly sourced wheat used to make Post cereals

The majority of ingredients found in Post cereals are sourced from the U.S. and Canada. Post is committed to responsibly sourcing from trusted suppliers that are aligned with the Global Food Safety Initiative. We have partnered with the Sustainability Consortium to evaluate our supply chain and increase transparency. Through this partnership, Post engages with stakeholders across our industry to share and implement best practices.

These efforts aim to help reduce the carbon released into the atmosphere in the field and from wheat processing facilities, as well as providing water and biodiversity benefits. Read more about how we’re partnering with our suppliers to sustainably and responsibly source our delicious ingredients.

Sustainably sourcing wheat

Wheat is a key ingredient in many of the most popular Post cereals. For example, Honey Bunches of Oats® cereal includes crunchy whole grain wheat flakes and our simple and sweet Golden Crisp® cereal is made from puffed wheat grains. Our top wheat suppliers are continuously exploring ways to grow wheat more sustainably, including implementing regenerative agriculture practices and improving milling operations.

Regenerative agriculture focuses on practices that help pull carbon from the air and store it in the soil. These efforts help reduce the carbon released into the atmosphere in the field and reduce emissions from wheat processing facilities.

Conserving water during rice production

Rice is the main ingredient in the most popular kids’ cereal in the U.S., Fruity PEBBLES™ and other organic and gluten free products like Puffins® Honey Rice cereal and Mom’s Best Crispy Cocoa Rice® cereal. We responsibly source most of our rice from suppliers that have committed to conserving water and preserving the environment.

Our largest rice suppliers are part of a national organization that that aims to reduce environmental impact. In the last 35 years, the group has decreased water usage by 52% and decreased greenhouse gas emissions by 41%. Additionally, we are committed to assessing our water impact, particularly in high-stress environments.

Responsibly sourcing cocoa

Cocoa PEBBLES™ cereal and Cocoa PEBBLES Crisps wouldn’t exist without cocoa. We partner with several suppliers who have programs in place to sustainably source cocoa. These sustainable cocoa sourcing programs focus on ending child and forced labor and eliminating deforestation for cocoa production.

We’ve committed to adopting a “no deforestation” policy within our supply chain covering key commodities in our responsibility report. Additionally, our Supplier Code of Conduct prohibits discrimination, harassment, forced labor, and child labor.

This is only the beginning. Watch a video about our ingredient sourcing process or visit our corporate social responsibility page to learn more about Post’s broader efforts.
