According to the Greater Twin Cities United Way (GTCUW), more than 100,000 students from the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. area return to school each year without the essential school supplies needed to help support their education. Post Consumer Brands® partnered with GTCUW this year to help bridge that gap.
The official United Way Day of Action 2023, organized by GTCUW, was held in August at Target Field in Minneapolis. As a sponsor of the event, 20 Post Consumer Brands employees volunteered during that event, ahead of our own supporting satellite event at our Lakeville, Minnesota. corporate headquarters on Tuesday, August 8.
Employees from our human resources and legal teams from both our Lakeville office and Northfield, Minnesota. manufacturing site participated. Over a two-hour volunteer shift, Post volunteers packed 400 backpacks for local students.
“It’s truly a community-wide effort to be able to assemble 43,000 backpacks. We are so thankful to all the volunteers and corporate partners who contributed to this incredible impact, and we are so appreciative for Post’s continued partnership and support of our Action Day events,” said Melissa Caldwell, Director of Engagement with GTCUW. “The backpacks will allow students across the Twin Cities metro to be prepared for the new school year.”
Through a satellite Action Day event at our Lakeville office, about 100 employees volunteered their time to help address educational disparities by packing 830 backpacks so students can go back to school ready to learn.
Between Action Day and additional satellite events held at other Minnesota businesses throughout the summer – GTCUW aims to pack a total of 43,000 backpacks to distribute throughout the Twin Cities metro and surrounding areas. The backpacks assembled by Post employees will benefit elementary age students in the Minneapolis school district.
